General Items
- Ensure proper form throughout the lift
- Use a spotter if lifting heavy weights
- Warm up adequately before lifting
Preparation
- Choose appropriate weight
- Wear proper lifting shoes
- Check barbell for damage
- Clear space around the lifting area
- Use chalk if needed
Setup
- Stand with feet hip-width apart
- Position barbell over mid-foot
- Bend at hips and knees to grip the bar
- Grip barbell with hands just outside knees
- Set back straight and chest up
Lift Execution
- Engage core before lifting
- Lift using legs, not back
- Keep barbell close to body
- Extend hips and knees simultaneously
- Stand tall at the top of the lift
After the Lift
- Lower the barbell in a controlled manner
- Reset before the next lift
- Stretch muscles after lifting
- Record weight lifted and reps performed
