Basic Life Support (BLS) Steps
- Check the scene for safety
- Assess responsiveness (tap and shout)
- Call for help or activate emergency response
- Check for breathing (5-10 seconds)
- If not breathing, begin CPR immediately
CPR Techniques
- Position hands on the center of the chest
- Perform chest compressions (30 compressions, 2 inches deep, 100-120 compressions/minute)
- Open airway using the head-tilt, chin-lift method
- Give 2 rescue breaths (1 second each, visible chest rise)
Using an AED
- Turn on the AED and follow audio/visual prompts
- Attach pads to the patient's bare chest
- Ensure no one is touching the patient before delivering a shock
- Continue CPR until emergency services arrive or patient shows signs of life
Post-Resuscitation Care
- Monitor the patient until help arrives
- Provide information to emergency responders
- Document the incident if required
